Herstory: The Women’s Advocacy Club (WAC) is an organization that was founded at Alliant International University (AIU) – Los Angeles Campus in 2013. Collaboratively, Dr. Elaine Burke, Dr. Rebecca Morgan Lee, and Dr. Lena S. APRIL Magardechian discovered the club on campus during a casual encounter regarding the prevalence of women’s issues. Dr. Lee and Dr. Magardechian then created the on-campus club and became the Presidents of the organization while Dr. Burke (Clinical Psychologist) was the advisory for four years, and Dr. Denise Lopez (Organizational Psychologist) was our advisory for our last year on campus. Additionally, Ms. Stephanie Byers-Bell (LA Campus Director) and Dr. Manijeh Daneshpour (System-wide Director of Alliant) and Dr. Susan Ellen Swin (Founder of Now I See A Person Institute) contributed unconditionally to the mission of WAC. After five years of serving/volunteering for the Student Government body at AIU, Dr. Magardechian took over the organization and turned it into a Charity 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization with the help of the current WAC Leaders and Pacific Accounting Group.
Vision: As our global non-profit charity organization continues to grow, we hope to connect with more like-minded people to raise importance to gender, mental health, and social justice issues. We envision and push forth the agenda that gender-related topics will be more openly and comfortably addressed in regular daily conversations/dialogues in order to diminish injustice acts, stigma, prejudice, bullying, stereotyping, harassment, hate crimes and taboo.
Mission: Through meetings, workshops, panels, guest speakers, and outreach events, our mission is to draw and leave a legacy together as professionals who are interested in promoting gender equality within our community and society at large. WAC aims to support all work that has made an impact in our world and we constantly fight the issues of mental health that prevail in our lives today. We focus on educating women, men, boys, and girls from all backgrounds so that we can then turn our attention to cultural, social and relational issues that are important to everyone’s emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. We hope to empower all through a myriad of expressional outlets (e.g., storytelling, social media, digital, poetry, dance, songs, and activism).
Our Policy: Discrimination is against the law. WAC follows State and Federal civil rights laws. WAC does not unlawfully discriminate, exclude people, or treat them differently because of sex, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, ethnic group identification, age, mental disability, physical disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
Values: Respect. LOVE. Integrity. LOVE. Compassion. LOVE. Leadership. LOVE. Advocacy. LOVE. Empowerment. LOVE. Consistency.LOVE. Kindness.LOVE. Honesty.

Hi! My name is Sahiba Kaur and I am a business woman in Burbank. I am creating a project for a competition I am participating in and I wanted my project to be about women empowerment. I love your mission and values as well as what you stand for and I am actually looking to become more involved in my community. As an Indian woman, I know a lot about gender discrimination and issues that we still face today. I would love to become a volunteer, guest speaker, and mentor and raise awareness about your non profit in my project. Please let me know if there is a process I need to go through in order to get involved. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon!
